AT-HOME VALENTINE'S DAY IDEAS

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and since I truly can't remember the last time I celebrated with a significant other (it's been years, people) I wanted to think of some ways to make it special while staying safe and protecting others in the community.

I met Edgar only a few weeks before Valentine's Day last year and so this year is the first time we're in it together. So while I am excited to just put on some good music and cook something from our new cookbook, here are a few other ideas that may be fun to try:

  • Cook something together

  • Play board games

  • Go outside (to the beach, on a hike, or even for a stroll around your neighborhood)

  • Order from your favorite restaurant and set up a fancy place to enjoy it with candles

  • Take a virtual dance class!

  • Set up a little wine tasting session with a few different varietals and have fun with the descriptions

  • Go on a drive. I think this has become our favorite thing to do lately! We drive to new little towns and walk around. You may find a local shop to pick up a gift and remember your time there together, too.

  • Drink champagne and watch a movie

  • Play records and dance (or just tell Alexa what you want to hear ;)

Oh, and hey, I think as a former forever single lady, I must say that Valentine's Day can be a real blow to the ego sometimes—but only if you let it. If you're doing your own thing this year just treat yourself to a fun show (why, yes hello Bridgerton!) a good takeout meal, some of your most comfy pjs, and enjoy the time to do whatever you want! There is something magical about not having to plan around someone else and that precious time is so often lost on comparing yourself to others on Instagram. So keep holding out for someone lovely because while the waiting game is often painful and full of tears (it was for me anyway), it's far better than settling for something that isn't quite right.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

Date-night in your future? Dressing for the occasion is already pretty complicated. If it's early on in the relationship you don't want to look like you're trying to hard and if it's been a while, you don't want to look like you're not trying hard enough. Do you keep it casual in jeans or pull out a dress? Go for a bold eye or keep your makeup fresh and natural? Should you attempt to wear those new knee-high boots or be comfy in no-fail flats? Woah! The list of choices is really endless. And trust me, I'm the queen of trying on ALL the options before I finally make a decision. You should see my closet after I get ready to meet my sister for lunch.

That's why today, I've put together today's wintery date-night look. It's meant inspire you the next time your tossing a pair of heels across your room in a panic. Pink is the color of the season so you really can't go wrong with anything in that color palette, and this pretty dress was made to throw-on-and-go. Warm and comfy, it's one-size-fits-all, and is essentially a chic update on your favorite sweater dress. With faux fur sleeve details that make it oh so special special, it's easily my new favorite winter frock.

I paired it with lavender slingback bow pumps, swingy statement earrings and a matching pink clutch to go for a look that's full-on femme.
