GO-TO STYLE

Mar Vista, CA

My favorite summer combo? Dresses and sneakers. I know that I've talked about it before,  like here, but this pairing is (and likely always will be) a go-to of mine. Much like pretzels and peanut butter, it's an unlikely combination that works better than could ever be expected. This dress is Reformation and it has an incredible fit that's both comfy and figure-flattering. Can we really ask for much more than that?

I wore it this past weekend at my local Mar Vista Farmer's Market. I went to get flowers and some new recipe inspiration but, alas, I was only successful at getting the flowers (sunflowers to be specific).

BEFORE THE BEE

Beverly Hills Hotel

Who else is loving gingham prints this season? While black is such a classic, I couldn’t resist this sky blue gingham dress from Goodnight Macaroon when I saw it. The light shade is so sweet and soft, plus the ruffled hem and cut-out front make it anything but basic. Oh and let’s talk about the versatility! This is definitely a gingham dress you can wear to BBQ, a baby shower and everything else in between.

Oh and here's a fun dose of reality for you: Minutes after I took this photo, I stepped on a bee on the grass and got stung. I caused a bit of a scene screaming at the top of my lungs outside of the Beverly Hills Hotel and then, the next day, my foot was the size of a balloon. After going to a local urgent care, I discovered that I got a staph infection from the sting- AH! I couldn't really walk for a couple days and it was incredibly painful but I survived. Moral of the story, life is not really as glamorous as the blog photos!

TURN IT UP

Westwood, CA

Dressing for date night can be hard. All that pressure of wanting to WOW with your outfit, partnered with having no idea where you're going can be pretty stressful, amiright? The good news is that it's summer. And to me, that means the dress-code rules go out the window a bit. Anything goes!  Sneakers with a fitted dress, a daytime romper for dinner or a pair of sunnies and jeans for an after work meet-up, just embrace the warm weather and toss the rules out to sea!

This off-the-shoulder number from NEWCHIC is a fun alternative to the classic LBD. I actually wore it to a work event the other night because it's a bit too dressy for date night over here in Venice beach, but I will probably pack it for my upcoming tropical vacation! Ahhh can't it always be summer?
