AT-HOME VALENTINE'S DAY IDEAS

Newburyport, MA

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and since I truly can't remember the last time I celebrated with a significant other (it's been years, people) I wanted to think of some ways to make it special while staying safe and protecting others in the community.

I met Edgar only a few weeks before Valentine's Day last year and so this year is the first time we're in it together. So while I am excited to just put on some good music and cook something from our new cookbook, here are a few other ideas that may be fun to try:

  • Cook something together

  • Play board games

  • Go outside (to the beach, on a hike, or even for a stroll around your neighborhood)

  • Order from your favorite restaurant and set up a fancy place to enjoy it with candles

  • Take a virtual dance class!

  • Set up a little wine tasting session with a few different varietals and have fun with the descriptions

  • Go on a drive. I think this has become our favorite thing to do lately! We drive to new little towns and walk around. You may find a local shop to pick up a gift and remember your time there together, too.

  • Drink champagne and watch a movie

  • Play records and dance (or just tell Alexa what you want to hear ;)

Oh, and hey, I think as a former forever single lady, I must say that Valentine's Day can be a real blow to the ego sometimes—but only if you let it. If you're doing your own thing this year just treat yourself to a fun show (why, yes hello Bridgerton!) a good takeout meal, some of your most comfy pjs, and enjoy the time to do whatever you want! There is something magical about not having to plan around someone else and that precious time is so often lost on comparing yourself to others on Instagram. So keep holding out for someone lovely because while the waiting game is often painful and full of tears (it was for me anyway), it's far better than settling for something that isn't quite right.

THE PINK AND RED COLOR COMBO

Newburyport, MA

IMG_7115.jpg

The pink and red combination started to percolate on my Instagram feed several springs ago and while I tend to forget how pretty the pairing can be, February feels like the right month to give it a try. After all, the color duo reminds me of candy hearts (yum!) and is truly perfect for Valentine's Day style.  It's equal parts bold and energetic! Plus, it demands attention in all the right ways, for all the right reasons, especially if you're looking to give your FaceTime date outfit a boost.

Don't be daunted by this power duo and just do what I did with this outfit here. Pick up pieces that combine the two tones already to make things simple on yourself. This cozy Anthropologie sweater is approachable and great for a takeout date or cozy movie night. For an easy way to test out the pink and red color mix, I've paired similar sweaters in varying price points at the end of this post.
